The conferenced opened with an address from General Secretary John Lowry and debated a number of keypoint motions on health, poverty, international affairs, Europe, and sectarianism in Northern Ireland. There were two guest speakers during the morning session: Marie O'Connor of the Health Services Action Group who gave a frank and highly-informed contribution on the state of the Republic's health service and Eddie Grant of the Nigerian Community in Waterford who praised the party and in particular Councill John Halligan for their support for the community and their forthright opposition to racism.
The conference continued on Saturday afternoon with a number of further guest speakers including Roger Cole of the Peace & Neutrality Alliance and the Cuban Ambassador to Ireland, Noel Carrillo.
The conference will close this evening with an address by the party's Waterford election candidate Councillor John Halligan.
